Arizona is known for its beautiful weather when many other states are headed into freezing temperatures and winter driving conditions. Every year, thousands of people migrate to Arizona from other states to enjoy the warmer climates through typically winter months. As these people travel from other states, they are new and unprepared for the driving conditions and roads they come to. Accidents can be prevented if drivers follow a few simple safety tips.

The Arizona Department of Public Safety encourages all drivers to inspect equipment and fluid before driving. These include tires, fuel gauges, air conditioning, wipers, windshield washer fluid, battery, transmission fluid, engine oil, coolant levels and any leaky hoses. A quick tire inspection can prevent a blowout. According to the National Traffic Safety Highway Administration, nine percent of total crashes were related to tires. Properly inflated tires can save money on gas mileage and even out the wear and tear on a car.

Because Arizona does have different weather than other states, drivers should be prepared with some critical supplies before they head out on any type of trip. These include the following:

  • Hot and cold gear for wet weather
  • Extra power supply and a mobile phone
  • Diapers and toiletries when needed
  • Baby formula and food for a 24 hour period
  • Prescription medication needed for a day
  • One gallon of water a day for each occupant

When traveling, it is also important that drivers share their travel route and plans with someone else. If they do not arrive on time or there are concerns, this person can check in to see if emergency help is needed. As driving conditions change in every state, accidents become more common and more serious. Anyone involved in a motor vehicle accident may benefit from speaking to a personal injury attorney.
